Christian Baldini
Christian Baldini is internationally recognized as a conductor that brings a fresh approach, depth and commitment to every performance with “a keen ear for detail” (The Scotsman). He has conducted opera at the English National Opera (London), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Aldeburgh Festival (England), and has served as assistant conductor with the San Francisco Symphony and BBC Symphony Orchestra. His guest conducting engagements include the North Netherlands Symphony (broadcast live, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam), National Symphony Orchestra (of Argentina and Portugal), Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Orquesta de Cámara de Chile, and the Florida Orchestra. Deeply committed to the education of young musicians, Baldini has conducted the South African National Youth Orchestra, and is the Barbara K. Jackson Professor of Conducting at the University of California, where he has conducted groundbreaking cycles including music by Luciano Berio, György Ligeti and Edgard Varèse. Baldini has conducted over 100 world premieres, collaborating closely with composers Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Thomas Adès, Brian Ferneyhough, Oscar Strasnoy and Steven Stucky.
